The theme for Locket's Advent Calendar 2023 will be British Birds - and yes, I have found more than 24 beautiful birds to choose from that I didn't use in 2020 when I last chose this theme!

If you have followed me on social media for a while you will already know that I am greatly influenced by the natural world and in particular by birds (just take a look at the recurring them in the greetings cards I stock!!)

I grew up in a bird-mad family and we were lucky enough to have chickens, ducks, geese, ornamental pheasants, racing pigeons, budgies, parakeets, birds of prey and many injured wild birds that were brought to my father to "fix" as he was almost as well-known for being the local birdman as he was for being everyone's Doctor!

I will write daily posts on social media throughout Advent with information and folklore about each bird and Aly Hall will be making a beautiful, bird themed ceramic decoration for your Christmas tree!

Most of the photos I will be using as dyeing reference and for my social media posts will be coming from lovely Sarah @birdy_num_nums who also sells her stunning work as @sharkalley and we plan to extend this collaboration a little further later in the year so watch this space......

Your Locket Advent Calendar will cost £93 plus postage and will be payable in three equal instalments of £31 with the final due in July/August along with the relevant postage for your country.

Each Advent Calendar will contain the following in 24 numbered paper bags:

• 24 x 10g mini skeins of hand dyed, machine washable 75/25 Merino/Nylon 4ply with a label saying which bird it has been dyed to represent 
• Daily treats to include Rington's tea, themed stitch markers and other goodies
• A terrible daily joke
• And best of all, a beautiful, hand crafted ceramic hanging decoration made by my wonderful friend Aly Hall 
• All contained in a re-usable card box

 Treat yourself to a little daily gift and some “me time” in the crazy run up to Christmas (why do they make it earlier and earlier each year???)
