I have a special new Lucy Locket Land Club for 2023 - Locket's Book & Craft Club where we can share our joint passions for reading and making.
Every two months there will be a new book recommendation and the opportunity to pre-order the special craft box that I have put together to go with the book and come to a special Knit Group/Book Club meeting either in person at Lucy Locket Land or virtually via Zoom.
Please note, you will need to have signed up for the Craft Box to come to the Book Group meeting
The Craft Boxes will vary and you will be given an indication of what type of project it will contain. You can also choose to sign up for each one or just whichever takes your fancy - there's no tie-in.
The second book recommendation is The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier and you can read it in any format you prefer - paperback, kindle, audio, library lend - whatever suits you and your lifestyle best.
This fabulous book follows Honor Bright, a Quaker girl from Dorset as she impetuously decides to travel to Ohio with her sister. Honor encounters so many new things in America, most importantly the plight of runaway slaves travelling through Ohio on their journey to freedom in Canada.
Quilting traditions and the differences between Honor's English style of patchwork and the American tradition of appliqué are a major feature of this book and so The Craft Box to go with The Last Runaway will feature a hand sewing project using English Paper Piecing (Hexagons) and quintessentially English "Liberty" patterned fabric (quilting cotton, not the more famous Lawn / we'd need a bigger budget for that!!)
The exact contents of the craft box are still being put together but will definitely be worth the price and will include
Multiple small pieces of patchwork cotton featuring Liberty of London prints
Hexagon paper templates to cut out
Printed instructions for English Paper Piecing
Instructions to create a patchwork cover for an A5 Bullet Journal (actual journal/notebook NOT included)
some secret extras - I don't want to spoil the surprise
in a tissue-lined box
plus entry to the in-person or virtual Book Group Meeting in early May (date to be discussed and confirmed to suit as many of you as possible)
The book itself is not included so you can choose your preferred format
Box numbers are limited and will be sent out by the end of March
Dates for the in-person and virtual book club meet ups will be scheduled for early May and various options will be suggested to give people as much choice as possible
