I have a special new Lucy Locket Land Club for 2023 - Locket's Book & Craft Club where we can share our joint passions for reading and making.
Every two months there will be a new book recommendation and the opportunity to pre-order the special craft box that I have put together to go with the book and come to a special Knit Group/Book Club meeting either in person at Lucy Locket Land or virtually via Zoom.
Please note, you will need to have signed up for the Craft Box to come to the Book Group meeting
The Craft Boxes will vary and you will be given an indication of what type of project it will contain. You can also choose to sign up for each one or just whichever takes your fancy - there's no tie-in.
The first book recommendation is The Lost Lights of St Kilda by Elisabeth Gifford and you can read it in any format you prefer - paperback, kindle, audio, library lend - whatever suits you and your lifestyle best.
This is a beautifully atmospheric book focussing on the last community on St Kilda before it was evacuted in 1930 and exploring the love story of Chrissie and Fred and his fight to return from World War II to find the girl he should never have left behind. I loved it when I first read it last year and it touches on so many things that I think you will love too - primitive island living, knitting, spinning, weaving, wildlife and the relationships between the key characters
The Craft Box to go with the Lost Lights of St Kilda will feature a knitting* project and will contain
5 x 20g mini skeins of Blue Faced Leicester/nylon wool that I will dye in the colours that come to me from the book (I already have a plan based on descriptions of the island itself)
a knitting pattern
some secret extras - I don't want to spoil the surprise
in a tissue-lined box
plus entry to the in-person or virtual Book Group Meeting towards the end of February/early March (date to be discussed and confirmed to suit as many of you as possible)
The book itself is not included so you can choose your preferred format and Box numbers are limited.
* if you prefer crochet I could suggest some alternative patterns for your yarn
The deadline for signing up is Tuesday 1st February to give me time to dye the yarn and send out the boxes (subsequent deadlines will be longer, I promise!)
