Over the last few months I have become increasingly interested in the l Gansey/Guernsey patterns on traditional fishermen's jumpers and so have created some new designs of my own for my Summer at the Seaside make-a-Iong.
So here are my new Herring Girl Socks featuring a line of fish up the front and back of the sock, a pretty herring bone design and a simple but effective cable that runs from the rib through to the heel flap then continues along the foot.
The sock is knit from the cuff down with a standard slip stitch heel but with the addition of the cables.
I have dyed a lovely new yarn for the kits. It is a 75/25% superwash merino/nylon sock yarn but has been specially spun to create a yarn that is particularly good for showcasing textural stitches. My shades are inspired by the every changing colours of the sea and each skein is tonal and varied rather than a solid flat colour.
The pattern is written as if you are using double pointed needles but can be easily adapted for a small circular or magic loop
The kit comes with
a printed pattern booklet with charted instructions
100g of hand dyed 75/25% merino/nylon 4ply sock yarn
a fish stitch-marker/progress keeper
in an organza drawstring bag
You can choose your yarn colour from the options below and can also add the 2.5mm Knit Pro Zing double pointed needles and a pack of knit pro cabling needles if you require them.
