Oh my friend Alitzah Grant is a clever bean!
Her gorgeous B'Twixt cowl first came to life when I asked if she could design a crochet cowl pattern for my Twixmas 2020 gift box using 4ply and lace weight yarn - and the result was delightful!
We then discussed how lovely it would look and how smooshy and warm it would feel if it was worked in aran weight yarn - and oh how lovely it is! So then I challenged Alitzah to turn the design into a slouchy hat. We wanted it to be fairly simple and without complex decreases so it is worked straight then drawn up at the crown with a length of crochet chain tied in a pretty bow. Because the hat and cowl have each been designed to work with just 1 x 100g ball of aran it is important to check your gauge. I am a loose crocheter so I didn't have enough yarn using a 4.5mm hook to work all 23 rounds of my hat so I would need to go down to a 4mm hook.
If you are unsure I recommend that you make the hat first, just in case you need to borrow a little extra yarn from the second ball as the cowl will work just as well with fewer rows.
