The Yorkshire coastline runs down the nort-eastern side of England from Saltburn-by-the-Sea right down to Withernsea at the mouth of the Humber Estuary. Dotted along the coastline are a host of unique villages and towns all with their own story to tell and their own dinstict gansey sweater designs that once identified the locality of fisherman while they were out at sea.
Yorkshire Shores celebrates the history and variety of these local gansey patterns in a modern and wearable way. The nine featured designs include sweaters, accessories, capes and blankets and are all knitted in baa ram ewe's Dovestone DK, a yarn spun and dyed in Yorkshire and blended with local Wensleydale and Masham sheep breeds.
The book brings a fresh perspective to local coastal knitting traditions and will inspire those interested in the heritage of Yorkshire knitting, as well as those simply looking for a collection of beautiful designs to make and wear.
